“Before Yes We Can, I felt stuck in live and just completely lost about what to do. I used drugs and self-harm to feel in control again. I would spend hours in my room, isolating from the world around me, and I was using on a daily basis. That was the moment I realised that change was needed. Yes We Can gave me a fresh start in life and a chance to be unmasked and begin my recovery. What had the greatest impact on me during treatment were the group sessions. They were intense, but they gave me the wake-up call I so badly needed. The coaches brought fun, support and, at times, challenging elements to the clinic, which helped me feel connected and safe. Meanwhile, the counsellors confronted me with my struggles in ways that were tough but ultimately healing, allowing me to grow and develop genuinely. I also formed a close and meaningful bond with my therapist, who supported me through some very difficult realisations. After Yes We Can, I connect with friends, study, make music, have just moved out and generally have a sense of stability and independence that I never had before. The joy I feel from real connections and becoming the person I truly want to be still motivates me to stay in recovery.”
