Updates on the IGJ investigation

Below you will find updates on the independent investigation by the Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ), as well as the steps we are taking in response to the concerns raised. New updates will be added to this page as they become available.

Update 3: 2 July 2026

The Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) has informed us that it has found that “the board, management and staff of Yes We Can Clinics (YWCC) are motivated to improve the quality of care in response to the concerns that have been raised.” The Inspectorate also stated that it sees us as “open to evaluation and committed to learning by reflecting on the concerns, recognising that improvements are needed in certain areas and immediately implementing improvement measures.”

We have had constructive discussions with the IGJ and share its vision of what young people need. The themes discussed have been receiving our attention for some time. In September 2025, the new Board appointed new clinical leadership. Since then, they have been implementing a range of improvements and further developments. These initiatives have also been discussed with the IGJ.

We have already introduced several immediate measures. We have always ensured that house rules and treatment agreements are discussed and agreed in advance. However, if fellows later change their minds about those agreements, we now explore whether greater individual flexibility can be provided. We have also introduced more personalised arrangements for contact with parents during the first weeks of treatment. In addition, our counsellors now work exclusively in a supportive role under the direction of qualified clinicians and under enhanced psychiatric supervision.

Following a successful re-audit, Yes We Can Clinics has also once again achieved ISO 9001 certification.

The Inspectorate’s final report is expected later this summer.

While these developments continue, we remain committed to providing care to young people and their families every day. At the same time, we continue to reflect on our organisation, learn from the concerns that have been raised, and further improve the quality of our care.

Update 2: 2 June 2026

The visits by the Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) to our locations have now been completed. We look back on an open, professional and constructive dialogue throughout the past few weeks. The Inspectorate is now moving to the next phase of its investigation: preparing its report. As soon as there is further clarity about the process, we will provide another update.

Alongside the IGJ investigation, we believe it is important to continue reviewing our organisation, culture and way of working critically. We have therefore launched an additional internal review covering various aspects of our treatment programme and organisation. Through this process, we aim to continue developing and improving the quality of our care.

Update 1: 6 May 2026

Yes We Can Clinics is currently in close contact with a range of stakeholders, including the Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ), health insurers and municipalities.

We welcome the IGJ’s investigation and believe it is both important and appropriate. We informed the IGJ that we would welcome the investigation starting as soon as possible, so that the questions raised can be answered carefully and independently. Transparency and independent oversight are an important part of how we operate. The IGJ has full access to our organisation, including the opportunity to speak with fellows and colleagues.
