Yes We Can Clinics has been developing and evolving for fifteen years. With Yes We Can NEXT, we bring this ongoing development together in one comprehensive quality programme: what has already changed and been put into place, what we are currently working on, and the steps that are still to come.
The programme encompasses the entire care we provide, from initial application through to aftercare, building on the intensive, compassionate care that we stand for.
Through Yes We Can NEXT, we capture and incorporate all feedback and signals from fellows, families, staff and partners. We strengthen what works well. We change what needs to change. We keep learning.

Good care never stands still – especially when supporting young people and families who are struggling in several areas of their lives. Needs change, professional knowledge and insights continue to develop, and the experiences of fellows, families, staff and partners show us what works, what could be better and what needs to change.
With Yes We Can NEXT, Yes We Can Clinics brings this ongoing development together in one strategic quality programme. NEXT brings together what has already changed and been put into place over recent years, what we are currently working on and the steps that are still to come. Across five quality domains, it encompasses the entire care we provide, from initial application through to aftercare.
NEXT builds on the intensive, compassionate care that Yes We Can Clinics stands for, while ensuring that our care continues to improve and remain aligned with current needs and professional insights. We build on what works well in our care for fellows and our involvement of families. We change what needs to change. We keep learning.
That is Yes We Can NEXT: Keep learning. Keep improving.
In this way, we ensure that we can continue to provide value and safety to those who need us, both now and in the future.
The Structure of the Programme
Together, the five domains encompass the full range of care we provide, from initial application through to aftercare:
What does this domain focus on?
This domain focuses on ensuring that treatment is aligned with each individual fellow’s needs, circumstances, preferences and capabilities.
What do we aim to achieve within this domain?
We aim to more clearly identify which young people our treatment is appropriate for, and what each fellow needs to begin their treatment journey well prepared. Fellows and their families should receive clear, accessible information before and throughout treatment, so they understand what to expect. Within safe and professional boundaries, fellows are given as much say as possible in decisions about their treatment, with scope for personalised care and individual choice.
What does this domain include?
This domain includes assessing whether treatment is appropriate, providing clear information, and involving fellows in decisions about their treatment through shared decision-making. It also covers personalised care, family involvement, and individual agreements that give fellows greater involvement in and influence over their own treatment.
What does this domain focus on?
This domain focuses on the clinical quality of treatment and on the expertise, responsibilities and professional development of our staff.
What do we aim to achieve within this domain?
We aim to continuously develop our treatment based on professional standards, clinical experience and emerging insights. Fellows, families and referrers should have a clear understanding of who is responsible for what, and how therapists, lead clinicians, counsellors, coaches and experts-by-experience work together. Staff should have appropriate qualifications, clearly defined responsibilities and sufficient opportunities for training, reflection and ongoing professional development.
What does this domain include?
This domain includes the ongoing development and professional treatment, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. It also covers continuing professional development, professional reflection and the review of clinical practice.
What does this domain focus on?
This domain focuses on physical and social safety, the protection of rights, and fostering a culture in which concerns, dilemmas and incidents can be raised and discussed openly.
What do we aim to achieve within this domain?
Every fellow and member of staff should be able to rely on clear, considered and proportionate safety frameworks. It should be easy to ask questions, raise concerns and make complaints, and clear what action has been taken in response. When something goes wrong or is experienced as unsafe, we want to learn from it and demonstrate that meaningful improvements have been made.
What does this domain include?
This domain includes safe and proportionate frameworks, the protection of rights, and accessible ways to raise concerns, report incidents and make complaints. It also covers the investigation, discussion and follow-up on incidents and safety concerns, as well as communicating what has been done in response.
What does this domain focus on?
This domain focuses on building the evidence base for our treatment and demonstrating outcomes and improvements.
What do we aim to achieve within this domain?
We want to understand what works, for whom, and where further improvement is needed. We systematically gather and analyse research findings, feedback, treatment outcomes and process data. Changes are monitored and evaluated to ensure they have the intended effect.
What does this domain include?
This domain covers scientific research, the measurement and analysis of treatment outcomes, experiences and care processes, as well as information security and NEN 7510 compliance. It also includes monitoring improvements and demonstrating their impact.
What does this domain focus on?
This domain focuses on collaboration with families, referrers, funders and care partners throughout a fellow’s care journey.
What do we aim to achieve within this domain?
Treatment at Yes We Can Clinics should connect seamlessly with the support a young person receives before and after treatment. Timely coordination and clear responsibilities help ensure appropriate referrals, involvement of the wider support network, effective transitions and continuity of care. We also share knowledge and experience with our partners to improve care for young people with complex needs.
What does this domain include?
This domain covers coordination with families and professional partners before, during and after treatment, including transitions, follow-up care, knowledge sharing and ongoing collaboration across youth care and mental health services.
Yes We Can NEXT is the quality programme of Yes We Can Clinics. Through NEXT, we bring together improvements, research and innovations that contribute to high-quality, safe care for fellows and their families.
Many of these developments were already underway. NEXT brings them together in a more coordinated and structured approach. The initiatives are organised across five domains: appropriate care and personal autonomy, professional treatment and expertise, a safe environment that supports learning, research and demonstrable improvement, and collaboration across the wider network.
Within each domain, we work with specific improvement projects, designated responsibilities and defined outcomes. This makes it clear what we are working on, the progress we are making and whether changes are actually achieving the intended results.
NEXT is not a temporary programme; it is the way in which we systematically continue to develop and improve the quality of our care.
NEXT is broader in scope than the investigation by the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate. The programme brings together developments that were already underway, as well as new improvement projects arising from a range of different sources.
Findings from the Inspectorate are one of these sources. We also draw on the experiences of fellows and families, complaints, incident reports, treatment evaluations, internal audits, outcome measurements, feedback from staff and care partners, professional guidelines and scientific research.
The improvement areas identified through the Inspectorate’s investigation are given a clear priority within NEXT. They are translated into projects within the five domains, each with a defined objective, designated responsibility, timeframe and intended outcome.
In this way, the follow-up becomes part of a broader and sustained approach to developing and improving our care and organisation.
The experiences and feedback of fellows, former fellows, families, staff, referrers and others involved with our care are important sources of insight for NEXT. They help us better understand what works well, what may be unclear or feel unsafe, and where further development is needed.
For feedback, complaints, questions about rights or situations requiring personal support, the existing channels remain available, including the confidential adviser, complaints officer and complaints committee.
For all other feedback, concerns or ideas, you can contact us at [email protected].
New improvement projects can arise from a range of sources. These include experiences shared by fellows and families, complaints and incidents, treatment evaluations, quality measurements, internal audits, feedback from staff, findings from regulators, questions raised by funders and referrers, professional guidelines and scientific research.
A topic is only included as an improvement project when it is clear what the project is intended to achieve. Each project is assigned to one of the five domains, with a clear objective, a designated person responsible for it, a start and end date, and an intended outcome.
Progress is monitored throughout the implementation of each project. A project is only considered complete once it has been assessed whether the intended outcome has been achieved. If further development is needed, a follow-up project may be initiated.
Not everything can be addressed at the same time. Projects are therefore prioritised based on urgency, risk, impact on care and available capacity.
We want to share progress on NEXT regularly and in a clear, accessible way. We will distinguish between what has already changed, what is currently being implemented, what is being prepared and which next steps are planned.
Going forward, we will determine how we will communicate progress and keep everyone informed.
