Effects of ADHD

It is important to know that there is no generally accepted psychological or neurophysiological test with which the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can be unequivocally established. However, young people with ADHD are often restless, impulsive, avoiding, socially isolated and have difficulty concentrating.

Attention deficit disorder mainly consists of concentration problems; the young person is quickly distracted by his or her environment. Impulsiveness ensures that young people do not always think about what they are doing and therefore have no control over their behaviour. Especially at a younger age hyperactivity exhibits itself. The children and young people are constantly in motion.

At Yes We Can Youth Clinics we also see on a regular basis that young people with ADHD (or ADD for that matter) try to calm their heads by means of self-medication, smoking cannabis or other drug use.

Treatment of ADHD

At Yes We Can Youth Clinics we help teenagers and young adults to deal with ADHD in a pleasant way and to function in society in a healthy way. We do not look at the 'stamps' that young people were given in the past or at the things that young people 'cannot do' or 'do wrong', but rather at their talents and qualities. Yes We Can Youth Clinics aims to reduce any medication that the the teenager or young adult already receives to zero or as little as possible during the treatment.

Care is important because these teenagers and young adults have an increased risk of depression or problematic substance use
